North Atlantic Right Whale Necklace

$525

A beautiful blue turquoise with a chocolate brown matrix, was the perfect stone for this tribute piece**. Oxidized sterling silver setting with fused silver dust in the sea. There is silver dust fused to the copper whale to mimic barnacles that are typically found on the North Atlantic Right Whales.  The reverse side is etched with the saying, " You will never tame her, for she is the sea."  It measures just shy of 2"W and 2.5" H with the bail.

This piece was made with great thought and intention. The creatures of our planet need our help to advocate for and protect them more fiercely than ever.

**This special piece is a tribute to 4 year old juvenile North Atlantic Right Whale, "Division". He was regularly sighted in the waters of New England and the Gulf of St Lawrence. Born in December of 2021, he was the youngest of 4 siblings born to mother, Silt. Sadly, Division was a tragic victim of a severe commercial fishing gear entanglement. He perished in January of 2026 off the coast of North Carolina. These entanglements, as well as vessel strikes, continue to threaten these critically endangered creatures. Today, the estimated population is approxiamately 380, with only 72 of those being reproductive females. There has been an ongoing push for the use of ropeless or weaker ropes to be adopted. The New England Aquarium has been collaborating with gov't agencies, industry partners and the research community to shift to these practices.

All pieces are handcrafted by me one at a time. They may vary slightly in appearance and measurement.
